Marcel Joachimstal knows by experience how important it is to put patient focus top of mind. If doctors and pharmaceutical companies would look at their activities from the perspective of patients there would be real added value to the lives of patients. The future of healthcare lies in e-health tools for self management and patient empowerment.
Therefore it is refreshing to see how Marcel Joachimsthal from GlaxoSmithKline is putting the patient and subjective wellbeing at the front of the equation. Often in health-care we measure quality in the amount of care we give to people (input) instead of how well somebody feels (output).
Marcel is vice president and general manager of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Netherlands. Before this role he was head of the respiratory centre of excellence. A role in which he was able to understand the patient perspective quite well since he himself has lived with asthma. He works for GSK since 1992.
